Five Belgian Artists To Watch In 2015

2014 was a great year for the Belgian music scene. Ofcourse there was the international succes of Stromae and oh yeah, Selah Sue collaborated with none other than Childish Gambino. Stromae & Selah Sue are established names but there’s a lot more talent on the come up in Belgium. I saved you the effort and made a list of five Belgian artists that are going to be big this year. Mark my words!

Siam

SIAM

Siam first popped up on our radar when she dropped her debut single Same Thing. But even before that she was doing her thing as she was getting airplay on national radio as a vocalist on Merdan Taplak‘s ‘Troubles In My Head‘. The young songstress has also been selected voor De Nieuwe Lichting, a talent hunt organised by public radio station Studio Brussel. May I remind you that she’s only 19 and that the best is yet to come for this promising artist.

Abraham Blue

AbrahamBlue

I found out about Abraham Blue at a slam poetry event at a crowded bar somewhere in Antwerp. I immediately realized that there was something special about this guy. He’s only 20 but if you listen to his songs you would think that he’s been around for ages. There’s a certain nostalgic feel to his sound. It’s also impressive how he keeps on perfecting his sound. 2015 might just be his breaktrough year.

Moodprint

Moodprint

Moodprint is a Leuven-based producer & DJ duo consisting of Alectric and Poldoore. They’re signed to Tangram Records, released a project on the highly-acclaimed LA-based record label Soulection which houses high rollers such as Sango and Esta. and tore the roof off during the Belgian edition of Boiler Room in Brussels. Just before the new year they released a project on the American Label Cold Busted which will be available on vinyl and CD on January 20. A great way to kick off 2015 if you ask me.

Polar Youth

Polar Youth

The 19-year old Elisabeth Verstraete started a project called Polar Youth in May. Little did she know things would go from zero to 100 real quick. Her debut single Bae reached over 40,000 plays on SoundCloud in no time. After this impressive first offering she got noticed by Belgian DJ & all-round music connaisseur Lefto. Back in October she got selected to do her thing at Made In Belgium, an event hosted by Lefto, Red Bull Elektropedia and Democrazy. She also received an award for Most Promising Artist at the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards. All this being said, this is an artist you can not sleep on.

Yellow Straps

YellowStraps

YellowStraps‘ music is gentle & soft but they might be taking Belgium by storm this year. Their mix between instrumentation and electronic elements is something I’m really into and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Over the last few years they’ve collaborated with the talented Brussels-based producer Le Motel and label mates Moodprint whom I mentioned above. They too received an award for Most Promising Artist at the Red Bull Elektropedia Awards. Although they haven’t provided a coherent offering yet, it’s safe to say their future is bright. In 2015 the trio will be releasing their first EP and a collaborative EP with Le Motel. Well, that’s something we’re certainly looking forward to.
