Near the end of last year, Brussels-based rapper Zwangere Guy released the first track of his album dubbed ‘Gorik Pt. 1’ and when we heard the song, it immediately became clear that the project dubbed ‘Wie Is Guy?’ was going to be way more than an album, it was going to be an ode to his hometown Brussels (Ganshoren to be exact), self-growth and his friends.
‘Wie Is Guy?’ consists of 19 songs and features fellow Brussels-based artists Blu Samu who comes through with a fire verse in Portugese on the Baile Funk-inspired track ‘Mershedeïz’, two soulful passages of Selah Sue on ‘Shit Is So Good’ & the Darrell Cole-assisted ‘Guy-Funk’, Peet, Fele Flingue, $keerenboo$, NAG, Miss Angel, Jazz & Berry.
On tracks such as ‘Probleem’, ‘Gorik Pt. 1’, ‘Beter Leven’ & ‘Demain, J’arrete’ the rapper is brutally honest about his troubled childhood & his lack of self-confidence in his younger years and on bangers such as ‘R.A.F., ‘U Ma Is U Pa’ & ‘Wie Is Guy?’ he showcases his versatile flow and witty rhymes.
